Seagrass in Florida

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission
Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI)

Conservation and restoration of seagrass is the primary focus of FWRI program staff in aquatic vegetation. Seagrass research helps supply resource managers with data necessary to make effective decisions about the preservation, management, and restoration of these communities.

Seagrass Ecosystems Research Lab
Information on the biology and ecology of seagrasses, current research projects, and classes taught by the Seagrass Ecosystems Research Lab staff. SERL is a component of the Southeast Environmental Research Center at Florida International University.

Florida Seagrass Conservation Information System
The Florida Seagrass Conservation Information System is an updatable collection of projects being conducted throughout Florida. This resource is intended to enable researchers to access information from sources who have conducted similar projects.

Florida DEP Seagrass
This site contains general information about seagrass and links to boating in shallow waters and other seagrass research projects.

Florida Bay—Seagrass
A 12-page document published in 2006 by US Geological Survey that summarizes the status and trends in seagrass distribution in Florida Bay, including results from field studies and historical information.

Seagrass in the United States

Seagrass in Chesapeake Bay
A brief primer on Submerged Aquatic Vegetation (SAV) in Chesapeake Bay, relevant information on special reports or projects from the Virginia Institute of Marine Science researchers, recent and historical SAV distribution information, and more.

Seagrass in Texas Texas Parks and Wildlife Department
The Texas Seagrass Monitoring Program was proposed at a Workshop held in Corpus Christi, Texas, in August 2000 that was attended by some eighty resource managers, estuarine scientists, and environmental representatives dedicated to seagrass conservation and protection. This site contains information about the five seagrass genera that occur in Texas waters.

Seagrass International

Seagrass in Australia
Seagrass Watch is the largest scientific, non-destructive, seagrass assessment and monitoring program in the world. Since its genesis in 1998 in Australia, Seagrass Watch has now expanded internationally to 18 countries. Monitoring is currently occurring at over 165 sites.

Global Seagrass Monitoring Network
SeagrassNet is a global monitoring program to investigate and document both the status of seagrass resources world wide and the threats to this important and imperiled marine ecosystem.

World Seagrass Association
The association supports training and information exchange and raises global awareness of seagrass science and environmental management issues.

Seagrass in Europe
This site contains information about a consortium involved in managing and monitoring seagrasses in Europe.
